Ravens for Innocence is a newly established, student-led advocacy chapter at Carleton University, dedicated to supporting individuals with claims of innocence.
To raise awareness about wrongful convictions, advocate for those who have been failed by the criminal justice system, and empower students to take an active role in addressing miscarriages of justice.
"Every case deserves a second look."
Real cases. Real people. Real time.
We don't just learn about wrongful convictions. Our Members work on real cases alongside second-year law students based in Toronto, carefully reviewing case materials and disclosure.
From case file to case package.
Members conduct legal research and prepare detailed case packages.
Those packages are handed off to pro bono lawyers who use them to help pursue exonerations.
Access to justice for everyone.
We host events, including talks from exonerees, to raise awareness about wrongful convictions and the people they affect.
Our work relies on legal professions who volunteer their time because access to justice should never depend on someone's financial circumstances.
Our events are open to everyone.
Because our casework is confidential, membership is by application each year. Recruitment for next year's members begins in the winter term.
Follow us for upcoming events, application dates, and ways to support the cause.
